  1. Hello!

    This is Cara C, I am playing Cleante in the modern cast. :D

    I was thinking along the lines of something like a blouse and a medium length skirt (not too long but not too revealing either) ...something adult and possibly a step up from plain causal wear (but not a business suit). Mr. Peerenboom also mentioned possibly a dress.

    I'm pretty open to any ideas though. :)

  2. Hey its Emzy
    and I am Flipote (asked my tutor how it was pronounced...Flee-poe)
    and I am in Modern

    I was thinking about ripped/ruined-ish jeans or skirt and an apron.

    but i'm not really sure if that will work.

    so, whatever you come up with.

  3. I'm Colleen Smyth and I play Cleante in the restoration cast. I think she would have a plain colored dress with no pattern on the fabric. Probably a more modest cut than Elmire's, but still very fancy and 'expensive'.

  4. Natalie - Elmire (modern)

    So, I was thinking a slightly risque sundress-type thing, a la "Real Housewives of Orange County" might work. Obviously, it has to be a dress, because of the whole Tartuffe "just feeling your dress" scene. Also, for another part when I don't need to be in my dress (like Act 1), I think a Juicy-inspired velour track suit would be hilarious, like the one Amy Poehler wore in "Mean Girls".

  5. this is Austin. i feel for the modern version, all of us officers should dress up in costumes resemble that of the cops in the movie "super troopers". their costume consists of a state trooper uni with aviators and everyone has handlebar mustache.

  6. I'm Emily. (Dorine in the restoration cast). I'm not sure what exactly a maid's attire would be in this style, but I'm assuming a plain color palette, with no wigs or hoops?

  7. I'm posting for Bati, because her computer won't let her:

    For the modern Mariane, I think the costumes should be really stylish because they have a lot of money, and since its California, there should be sundresses and things like that. Also.....bikini and heels!!!! heehee....but because they have a ton of money, it should look like she's the trendsetter. All that jazz. : )

  8. I'm Tiffany and I play Mme Pernelle in the restoration cast. I think she would wear something very elaborate... Possibly a giant cross or something because of her religious devotion, but definitely a full hoop skirt, garish designs, etc.. :)

    Mariane --> Restoration cast

    I was pretty much thinking a pretty dress, maybe a dark burgandy with gold trim or something, with a hoop skirt and most definitely a corset!!!! maybe long burgandy gloves, too...very stylish and flattering...and not too risque like elmire but not really conservative either...I have a picture of a great costume for ladies that i found online...I will bring it to rehearsal tomorrow

  10. this is sam, im tartuffe,

    for the restoration i was thinking along the lines of what shrek is wearing, in this http://mag.awn.com/issue12.02/12.02images/shrek01_Shrek3-RoyalOutfits.jpg

    with a cane along these lines (exept without the dragon and the sword)

    and then maybe a beauty spot, maybe,

    and then i have got no clue as to what to do for the modern version

  11. Lila - Madame Pernelle (modern)

    Since Madame Pernelle is obviously a churchgoer, I was thinking that an appropriate costume would be some sort of hideously gaudy Church Suit and an outrageous Church Hat. And a giant cross.

    Mariane --> restoration

    I found this online, and I think it's a really nice template for the restoration cast women.

    I think since I am younger and have fairly long hair, instead of a wig we should use my natural hair...u know?

  13. Jennie (restoration Elmire):

    Something feminine, deep pink/purple tones, lace-up bodice, ribbons, frills, you get the idea.

  14. Tiffany (Mme Perenelle Restoratoin)

    I think she should have something very elaborate and ornate... Maybe even hideous... And defnitely over the top...

  15. hey this is Ethan im Valere. for the modern i think i should either be wearing some nice jeans and some sort of sweter vest thing going with a button up shirt, or some light colored pants along with a pink polo with maybe some thin blue stripes.

    for the restoration i was thinking something alont the lines of

  16. First off - Hi, I'm your costume designer..finally...some of these are good suggestions, some we will work with...for Restoration we will be relying a lot (hopefully) on what we can borrow from other theaters. I will know more on Monday what Lakewood Theater has and maybe we can work out a deal with Portland Opera. One suggestion I have for modern day look is to check out the TV series (now maybe canceled, but you should still be able to find it online) Dirty, Sexy Money. The Darling family is very wealthy with the crazy kids, the young hip twins (Mariane and Damis?) and I think trashy rich is not the way to go...classy rich is better. Anyway, I am thinking that once we know if there is a rehearsal scheduled for Feb. 16, that that might be a good day for everyone to bring their modern day clothing options and then we can see what we need to add. Thanks, guys!
